Working Fleet Supervisor

WORKING FLEET SUPERVISOR

(FULL TIME, SALARY, NON-EXEMPT)

Starting Wage ($60,559.62)

The Butler County Engineer’s Office (BCEO), Butler County, Ohio is seeking applicants for a Working Fleet Supervisor. The Working Fleet Supervisor will work under the general supervision of the Operations Manager and Operations Deputy and supervise mechanics and perform the tasks necessary for the preparation, repair, and maintenance of BCEO vehicles and equipment, including ordering of parts, tools, supplies, fuel and oil.  The Working Fleet Supervisor may work alone or as part of a team.

The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for overseeing the mechanics as assigned.  Responsible for keeping the county equipment and vehicles in good repair; accurate documentation of labor, equipment, and materials; working toward objectives of the operation department; the safety and care of the mechanics, shop area, and equipment.  Orders parts, tools and other supplies for the various crews and mechanics.  All working toward the objectives of the operations department; the safety and care of coworkers, facility, and Butler County residents.

The Working Fleet Supervisor must have (or obtain within the 120-day probationary period) a Valid Ohio Class A CDL with airbrake and tanker endorsements and less than 6 points.  The Working Fleet Supervisor must be a high school graduate or equivalency, must be able to accept on-call duties, work flexible hours, work alone or with others, have the ability to read and write and comprehend and act upon written instruction and to know and understand policies and procedures.

The successful candidate for this position must be able to work daily and perform heavy manual labor for long periods of time in adverse weather, operate equipment, trucks and tractors, climb ladders, shovel, deal with heights up to 55 feet, lift 100 pounds, bend twist, stand and walk. The Highway Service Worker must wear uniforms and safety equipment as required by OSHA and BCEO safety policy.

The successful candidate for this position must be able to perform all of the following essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation:

Communicate well and work well with others and cooperate with residents of Butler County, vendors, customers and employees of Butler County.

Report for snow and ice duty at all hours of the day, seven days a week, be on site within 45 minutes of being called in.  Snow and ice duties will include but not be limited to repairing trucks and equipment to keep all crews running.  May include working in the shop and out on the routes in all kinds of inclement weather.

Inventory all parts, supplies, tools, equipment, fuel, lubricants, and all other stock items and keep accurate records as to purchase, use and availability.

Operate receiving department for facility, take deliveries and using a forklift or rubber tire loader to unload large orders from trucks.

Daily distribution of tools and supplies to the various crews as needed.

Check for availability of parts and place orders for the mechanic’s department and crews, and find the most cost effective prices.

Order fuel and track usage.

Track mileage and service on all motorized vehicles and schedule service, maintenance and repairs for the mechanics.

Assist and mentor Mechanics and perform maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment as needed.

Must be able to plan well and project the needs of the county with regards to vehicles, equipment and tools.

Must be able to review and prepare specifications for equipment, trucks, vehicles and tools.

Must be able to learn and navigate through the available public purchasing programs.

Must be able to communicate well and work well with others and cooperate with residents of Butler County, vendors, customers and employees of Butler County.

Must be able to Directly Supervise and work alongside the personnel (mechanics) assigned for the day. 

Must perform daily work assignments from the Operations Manager or Operations Deputy. 

Must be available to perform all described functions during shift intervals, all hours of the day, seven days a week.

Must be able to maintain discipline of the employees assigned, and completes all paperwork necessary, and assure the safety of the crews while working on vehicles and equipment in the shop or on the road. 

Must be able to perform all the essential functions of a Fleet Mechanic.

 

The successful candidate must perform other functions as required:

Perform duties of facility maintenance workers when necessary;

Pick up and /or deliver parts, fuel or supplies to the mechanics or job sites;

Assist mechanics with the maintenance of vehicles and equipment;

Other functions as required by Supervisor or Manager.

 

Skills and Knowledge:

The Working Fleet Supervisor must have knowledge of the policies and procedures of the Operations Department as they apply to the work assignments;

Must have the ability to use the computer to electronically access service and parts manuals and have the ability to read and understand the manuals as well as verbal instructions;

Must know how and where to order parts and service needed for vehicles and equipment used by BCEO;

Must be familiar with data-based computer applications to track inventory, fuel and service records;

Must have the ability to recognize unsafe work zones and practices and report them to a supervisor;

Must know the policies and procedures for purchasing and accounting as they apply to the accounting department and as required by the Butler County Auditor and Board of Commissioners.

 

Job Location:

Most work is performed outside where incumbent may work alone and is exposed to extremes in outdoor temperatures and weather conditions, noise, dirt, dust, grease, burns vibration, electrical and mechanical hazards, moving traffic hazards.  Exposure to unfavorable health and safety factors is frequently present and work may be exacting.  The incumbent may experience eyestrain while plowing snow. 

The employee in this position will work from the Butler County Engineers Office.  Normal hours of work are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Winter), Monday through Friday and 7:00 am. to 3:30 pm. (Summer), Monday through Friday.
