Statement of Job:
This position is for a civil engineer who will perform design/project management for transportation type projects. Work includes performing a broad range of engineering duties involved with design, report preparation, review and/or inspection of civil work projects or other closely related work. Considerable latitude is given for independent action within the scope of oral and written instructions. Work is performed under the limited supervision of a Professional Engineer or Engineering Manager who makes general assignments and reviews work to ensure that it is completed according to instructions and in accordance with accepted principles and practices of civil engineering.

Reports to the Engineering Manager
Qualifications:
The position minimally requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and registration as an Engineer-In-Training with a career objective of obtaining Professional Engineer certification, and ability to successfully complete a background check including drug screening.
Must have a valid State of Ohio driver’s license with less than six points.
Physical Requirements:
The successful candidate will be able to perform the essential functions both indoors in an office environment, and outdoors in all weather condtions. The successful candidate will from time to time need to be able to negotiate various terrains on construction sites, and be able to bend, stoop, work at heights and be able to wear safety equipment as required by OSHA and BCEO safety policy
Essential Functions
Must meet the physical requirements and be able to perform the following with or without reasonable accommodation:
Must be able to communicate well and work well with others and interact with residents of Butler County, developers, contractors, consultants, vendors, customers and other employees of Butler County.
Skills & Knowledge:
Principles and practices of civil engineering and surveying.
- Ability to prepare, interpret and utilize plans, maps, specifications, special provisions, and reports.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and to prepare engineering reports.
- Ability to use and maintain various engineering tools and equipment.
- Ability to adapt engineering information, codes, statutes, and standards to the planning, review, design, and construction of capital improvement projects.
- Ability to collect and analyze technical information and to develop logical solutions or alternatives to problems.
- Ability to use a personal computer and computer-aided design systems.
- Knowledge of software programs and databases.
